What makes you want to watch someone on stage? Not because they are doing more or trying harder. It can be much simpler: they are completely there, alive to what is happening, and there is a spark of pleasure in what they are doing. This workshop is about developing that quality — working on presence, rhythm, timing, impulse, humour and complicity with the audience, while discovering how games can become a practical tool for performance and for creating theatre.
The games are not warm-ups.
The games are the work. They give you something concrete to play with: a situation, a relationship, a rhythm, a problem, a surprise. Through them, you learn to show, conceal, tease, change and lead — and to lead, follow and share the focus with other performers. A tiny impulse can become a scene, a character, a song or an entire piece of theatre.
You'll learn to show, conceal, tease, change and lead; to know when to show your hand and when to keep your cards close to your chest; to catch what comes flying at you instead of standing there like a rabbit in the headlights. And to find material in the things you might normally try to sweep under the carpet — your foolishness, awkwardness, oddness, obsessions and particular way of seeing the world.
The skills developed here are at the heart of clown, ensemble work, masks, bouffons and other forms of theatre. You don't need a finished act or a clever idea. You need to be ready to play.

About Carlo Jacucci
Carlo Jacucci is a performer, clown and theatre teacher with twenty years of experience in professional theatre training. He is the performer behind VITAMIN – The Show, which has toured extensively across Europe and internationally, including performances at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, the International Mime Festival in Macau and International Theatre Festival in Kuala Lumpur, as well as two sold-out runs at London's Soho Theatre. Carlo has taught internationally since 2006 and has taught at major theatre and performing arts institutions and festivals across Europe, and at Art Drama Center in Guangzhou, China, the Cork School of Music, Dance House Dublin, the International Festival of Contemporary Circus Cirkuliacija in Kaunas Lithuania, International Circus School Fredrikstad Norway, the Théâtre de l'Opprimé of Paris in France, Italy and Burundi, the Volterra Theatre Festival, the Arches Theatre in Glasgow, and at École Philippe Gaulier in Paris since 2011.
