Bouffons Workshop in London
On 20 to 23 June 2024 Carlo Jacucci will be in London for this four day intensive Bouffon Workshop, where performers from all disciplines, novices, people with diverse backgrounds will learn how bouffons work to discover their own unique talents, create together and write their shows, with a teacher who has an extensive experience in teaching performers from all over the world.

This is a workshop to learn to play in the shocking and seductive world of Bouffons

Can you mimic, tease, parody without being just heavy? Can you infuse humour, lightness, and beauty into your performance, making people laugh without resorting to vulgarity or heaviness? This workshop is for performers, actors, comedians, musicians, and enthusiasts, refining their sensitivity and humour through dynamic games and exercises.
Focused on the art of derision in the realm of Bouffons, participants will master the skill of mockery with a touch of the grotesque, always wrapped in charm. Drawing inspiration from figures like Dario Fo, Joel Grey, and other Bouffons in theatre, film and cabaret, this workshop guides actors in understanding charm and stage presence.
We will also explore the Bouffons’ preferred act of mocking the unjust and exposing the antics of the powerful, elected, and elite. Unmasking truths, uncovering lies, and exposing hypocrisies—all while evoking laughter. Bouffons are not merely shocking; they are masters of mirth and levity. We will uncover the humour within Bouffons, understanding their parodic impact through exercises that involve working with constraints—constricting movements, altering appearances, and transforming with costumes to learn the pleasure of being ridiculous.
